TV Mounting on Stonestack Fireplace in Louisville, KY
Expert TV installation on stonestack and stacked stone veneer fireplaces. We have the tools and experience for this uniquely challenging surface.
Why Stonestack Is One of the Hardest Mounting Surfaces
Stonestack (stacked stone veneer) is one of the most difficult surfaces to mount a TV on. The stones are thin veneer pieces stacked and adhered to a backing, creating a highly uneven, textured surface with minimal structural depth. Many installers refuse stonestack jobs or do them incorrectly.
Stonestack Challenges We Handle
- Extreme surface irregularity -- no two stones are the same depth
- Thin veneer stones may not support direct anchoring
- Must anchor through veneer into studs or backing structure
- Shimming and leveling on surfaces with inches of variation
- Preventing veneer cracking during drilling
Our Stonestack Mounting Approach
On newer stonestack builds, our priority is to locate the studs, drill through the mortar layer, and use Structural Fasteners like Simpson Strong-Tie and FastenMaster LOK Line. These anchors are typically longer and rated much stronger than traditional lag bolts to account for the depth of the stonestack and backer board. Mounting directly to the studs is the most secure way to mount the TV. Custom spacers ensure the mount sits level despite the irregular surface.

Stonestack TV Mounting FAQ
Can you mount a TV on stacked stone?
Yes. Stonestack is one of our specialties. We anchor through the stone veneer into the studs behind it. We use custom spacers to level the mount on the uneven surface. The result is a secure, perfectly level TV installation.
Will drilling into stonestack crack the stones?
The first preference is to drill the mortar with a Rotary Hammer Drill and into the studs. When that option (drilling through the mortar) is not viable, we'll discuss with the customer that it is necessary to drill through the Stonestack. Proper bit selection and drilling technique prevents cracking. We have installed on many stonestack fireplaces without damaging the veneer.
